Earl Grey Overnight Oats
Overnight oats are one of the easiest make-ahead breakfast. But sometimes I find myself getting tired of all the same old combos. Enter: Earl Grey Overnight Oats. This recipe integrates one of my favourite things, Earl Grey tea, to create a fresh take on classic overnight oats.
I’ve been enjoying these on repeat lately. They feel like the perfect quick, healthy, and cozy breakfast to pull me through this final stretch of winter.
Recipe Details
For this recipe you will need loose leaf Earl Grey tea (or two Earl Grey tea bags), quick oats, chia seeds, ground flax, vanilla, cinnamon, milk of choice, and maple syrup.
I like to use quick oats for my overnight oats because I find they yield a creamier result, but rolled oats will work perfectly fine too.
The Cream of Earl Grey tea from Blue Mountain Tea Company is what I use for this recipe because it has wonderful vanilla notes in it. That being said, you can use any Earl Grey tea that fits your fancy 🙂
Make the Earl Grey Tea
In a small saucepan, bring your milk to a gentle simmer over low heat. You don’t want the milk to come to a full boil because it will curdle.
Remove the milk from the heat and add the Earl Grey tea. Steep for 5 minutes. If you are using loose leaf tea you will need a tea ball, like the one in the photographs above. Alternatively, you can add the tea leaves right to the milk and strain the tea through a sieve after steeping.
To the steeped tea, add the maple syrup and vanilla. Whisk well to incorporate.
Mix the Overnight Oats
Combine the oats, chia seeds, cinnamon, ground flax, and salt in a small mixing bowl.
Pour in the Earl Grey tea and whisk well until the tea is fully incorporated with the dry ingredients. You want to make sure there are no pockets of dry ingredients remaining
Transfer the oats to an airtight container and place in the fridge overnight.
Serve and Enjoy!
The next morning, serve the oats with your favourite toppings. I love to add nut butter and fresh fruit to mine 🙂 This recipe makes two servings so you can enjoy them with a loved one or save the second serving for breakfast the next day.
