Piña Colada Protein Smoothie

I can’t take credit for this combo—it’s the brainchild of my friend, Kaitie. That being said, this Piña Colada Protein Smoothie is so delicious, and I’ve been making it so often that I figured it deserved a permanent place on the blog. As some of you may know, I recently ran my first half marathon, so making sure to properly fuel my body after long runs has been top of mind. This smoothie is easy to make, contains naturally occurring electrolytes, and gets in a sneaky serving of protein, all while tasting delicious.

Piña Colada Smoothie Ingredients
To make this Piña Colada Smoothie, you will need the following ingredients:
- 1 cup coconut water
- 2 cups frozen pineapple chunks
- 1 scoop vanilla protein powder of choice (see recommendations below)
- Pinch of sea salt
Which Protein Powder Should I Use?
I would like to start by saying I am no expert when it comes to protein powder. What I can tell you is that these are the brands I have tried and liked, and I have tried many different brands and types of protein over the years. Three protein powders I would recommend are:
- Good Protein All-in-One Shake Vanilla Milkshake
- Ritual Daily Shake Essential Protein
- Limitless Pharma Pure Whey Isolate Smooth Vanilla
I’m currently using number three on that list, and it’s been a good one. Something I find challenging with plant-based proteins is the texture. Even if they have good flavour profiles, I find the gritty texture to be a bit off-putting, which is why I’ve now switched to a whey isolate.
To make this recipe vegan and dairy-free, use a plant-based protein powder.
Step 1—Prep the Smoothie
Measure out the coconut water and frozen pineapple chunks. Add both to a high-speed blender along with one scoop of vanilla protein powder and a pinch of sea salt.
Turn the blender to high and blend until completely smooth.
Step 2—Pour and Enjoy!
Pour the smoothies into glasses and garnish with some shredded coconut and pineapple, as you wish. Enjoy immediately.
