Immunity Boosting Citrus Juice
When it’s 30 below outside and the gloominess of winter is really starting to sink in we could all use a bit of a pick-me-up. It feels as though I’ve hardly seen the sun in the last few months (today being a rare exception) and I am seriously missing summer produce, especially the fresh fruit!
So far I have been fortunate enough to not get the weird super-virus that has been spreading like wildfire this winter (knock on wood), but I have been on the verge of getting a cold a few times. I’m not a huge fan of cold medicine and all that stuff, so when I feel like I am starting to get sick I usually reach for the lemon and honey rather than the Nyquil. My main tactics for killing off a cold before it starts are: hot lemon and honey, spicy food (I douce everything in hot sauce), gallons of tea, water and apple cider vinegar and of course, citrus fruits.A few weeks back I was beginning to get that tell tale itch in my throat and ear (always a bad sign). At the time I had a big bag of oranges in the fridge, so I decided to do a little bit of juicing.I don’t juice that often, but when I do I go all out.
Juicing is a really great way to use up leftover fruits and veg that are on their way out. It is also a great way to pack a crap ton of vitamins into a small serving. This juice alone has 721% of the daily vitamin C recommendation, that’s pretty spectacular.
I really like this combination because it’s sweet, but also mildly spicy from the turmeric and ginger. The pinch of black pepper makes the Curcumin (the good stuff) in turmeric accessible to our bodies. Curcumin is great because it is anti-inflammatory and helps the body to fight off infection and to repair damage done by infection. So when you’re feeling yucky turmeric is a really great thing to add to your diet.
Happy Juicing!
xx
