Where Do I Buy Dried Rose Petals?
I purchased my dried rose petals from my local tea shop, Blue Mountain Tea Company. Dried rose petals can also often be found at bulk or health food stores or purchased online.
Can This Be Made into a Mocktail?
Yes ! This recipe. can absolutely be made into a non-alcoholic mocktail. If alcohol isn’t your thing, or you’re trying to cut back, you can add a couple of ounces of soda in place of the tequila. For a mocktail version, you will shake the blood orange, lime, and rose simple syrup in your cocktail shaker, then top it up with the soda once it is in your glass. Don’t go filling a cocktail shaker with something carbonated—it will explode! (I may or may not have made this mistake before…)
Prepare the Rose & Blood Orange Margarita Ingredients
The first step for preparing a rose and blood orange margarita is to prepare the ingredients by juicing the blood orange and limes. How much juice a single orange will yield will vary, but one orange should definitely be enough to make one drink.
Make the Rose Simple Syrup
Once the citrus is all juiced, you can make the rose simple syrup. Add the water and sugar to a small pot and bring to a simmer. Stir until the sugar has dissolved, then remove from the heat. Stir in the dried rose petals and set aside to cool and infuse.
After about 25 minutes, the syrup will be cooled and nicely infused with the rose. Strain the syrup through a fine mesh sieve and set aside.
Shake and Serve!
Rimming your cocktail glass is optional but adds a nice flare to the overall experience. To rim the glass, simply swipe the rim with a lime wedge and then fill a small plate or bowl with a fine layer of salt. You want the plate to be wider than the diameter of the cocktail glass you are using. Hold the glass at an angle and gently roll it through the salt to create a nice salted rim. I added some crushed dried rose petals to my salt for a bit more pizaz!
Fill your rimmed glass with ice.
Add ice to your cocktail shaker so it is filled about a quarter of the way. Add the tequila (if using), blood orange juice, lime juice, and rose simple syrup. Close the cocktail shaker and shake well. Pour over ice into your prepared glass, garnish with a slice of blood orange and some rose petals, then serve!
