Strawberry Basil Margarita Ingredients
Any true margarita has four core ingredients: lime juice, tequila, an orange liqueur, and a sweetener such as agave nectar or simple syrup. This Strawberry Basil Margarita is a twist on the clasic, so it has a couple extra ingredients – but fear not, it’s still incredibly simple to make. You’ll need
- Fresh strawberries
- Basil
- Blanco/silver tequila
- Orange liqueur such as Cointreau or Grand Marnier
- Fresh lime juice
- Agave nectar or simple syrup
- Ice
- Coarse salt – for the rim, of course!

How to Make a Strawberry Basil Margarita
Salt the Rim of a Margarita Glass
Traditionally, margaritas are served in a margarita glass or coupette, but it is now more common to see them served in old fashioned glasses.
Pick your glass and run a lime wedge along the rim to dampen it. Fill a small plate with coarse salt and dip the wet rim in the salt, rotating gently to coat.
You want to make sure you salt the rim before making your drink, as the glass has to be empty for this step!
Muddle the Strawberries and Basil
Add the fresh strawberries and basil leaves to a cocktail shaker. Using a cocktail muddler, muddle the berries and basil together to release their juices. Add ice to the shaker with the muddled berries.
Shake up Your Strawberry Basil Margarita
To the cocktail shaker, add the tequila, orange liqueur, fresh lime juice, and agave. Shake well to combine.
Strain the mixture into your prepared glass with the salted rim.
Serve with a garnish of fresh strawberry slices and basil leaves. Enjoy!
