Strawberry Basil Margarita

Ingredients

  • 4 large fresh strawberries
  • 4 large basil leaves, torn
  • 1 ounce blanco/silver tequila
  • 1/2 ounce orange liqueur, Cointreau or Grand Marnier
  • 1 ounce fresh lime juice
  • 1/2 ounce agave nectar
  • Ice
  • Lime and coarse salt, for the glass rim (optional)
  • Strawberry slices and basil leaves, to garnish (optional)

Instructions

  • Salt the rim of the glass by rubbing a lime wedge along the rim. Fill a small plate with coarse salt. Dip the glass rim into the salt to coat. Fill the glass with ice.
  • Place the strawberries and basil into a cocktail shaker. Use a muddler to gently muddle the strawberries and basil together. Add ice to the cocktail shaker.
  • Add the tequila, orange liqueur, lime juice, and agave to the cocktail shaker. Shake and strain into the glass with ice. Garnish with fresh basil leaves and strawberry slices and serve.
