A Tasty Afternoon in Kensington Market, Toronto

A Tasty Afternoon in Kensington Market, Toronto

I moved away from the city almost ten years ago, so I don’t know it as well as some, but there are certain areas of the city that I love to visit whenever I am in town. Kensington Market is one of those areas.

Big, Bright Layered Beet Smoothie Jars

Big, Bright Layered Beet Smoothie Jars

With Easter coming up and spring just around the corner I thought it would be fun to share a more vibrant recipe to help me get over my serious case of the winter blues. Lately I’ve been really into making myself big smoothies for breakfast,

Roasted Squash Noodle Bowls with Miso-tahini Sauce

Today was my official last day as a ski instructor. It was a perfect last day too. The sun was shining, conditions were great and it wasn’t cold at all. This was my fifteenth  season on snow, my seventh on staff and my fifth as a ski instructor. I started volunteering with the ski school when I was twelve and I did that for a couple years. When I turned fourteen I was offered a job as an assistant, and when I turned fifteen I took my level one and became a CSIA certified ski instructor. Between Christmas camps, New Years camps, the year 9 week program and March break camps, I’ve taught a lot of kids over the year. It’s definitely been a challenging job because let’s face it, little kids are exhausting and I almost always have ages 3-5. Needless to say, my back is very sore and my patience is not what it was 9 weeks ago, but I did have fun. As much as I complain about teaching, I did enjoy it. Rustic Leek and Potato Soup

Rustic Leek and Potato Soup

Funny story, a few weeks ago (Maybe a few months ago?) I needed a few potatoes for a recipe and my mom picked up a gargantuan bag of russet potatoes. Well, I still have about three quarters of the bag in my pantry… Being more

Immunity Boosting Citrus Juice

Immunity Boosting Citrus Juice

When it’s 30 below outside and the gloominess of winter is really starting to sink in we could all use a bit of a pick-me-up. It feels as though I’ve hardly seen the sun in the last few months (today being a rare exception) and

Cranberry & Apricot “Buttermilk” Scones

By taking a quick glance out the window it looks as though it’s April out there. Everything is wet, there are only tiny patches of snow remaining and the sky seems to be eternally grey. In case you didn’t know, April is one of my least favourite months of the year. I like to refer to is as “the November of the spring” (November is my other least favourite month). I feel like I’m we’re being cheated by Mother Nature with this April weather in January. It looks like this year we’re getting double the April yuckiness. Not cool. Loaded Spirulina Smoothie Bowl

Loaded Spirulina Smoothie Bowl

I’m a big time green smoothie lover and recently I’ve been doing some experimenting with new ingredients. About a month ago I ordered a few specialty health food items that are a little bit difficult to find around where I live. One of those items

As the holiday season winds down, it seems as though cold and flu season is just starting to rev up, for me anyway. I’ve ben waking up to itchy ears, a stuffy nose and a nasty sinus headache. For the last two weeks I’ve been

Welcome Home Mac ‘n “Cheese”

Welcome Home Mac ‘n “Cheese”

Lots of exciting news to share. First thing’s first, this past Friday my big sis left on her big Scottish adventure. Emma is on exchange in Scotland for the next five months. I am hopeful that I will have a chance to head over to the United Kingdom in the spring to pay her a visit and get a tour of her new (temporary) digs. I’ve never been to Europe, so it would be an amazing experience to get a chance to travel over there. Em and I are huge fan of the show Outlander, which is set in Scotland. I’ve been wildly searching Pinterest for Outlander-themed day trips that Em and I can do if I come over to visit. If any of you are Outlander fans and are going to be in Scotland anytime soon, I definitely recommend that you check out this pin. I’ve already sent it to Emma and she’s pretty hyped about it. Pumpkin Spice Waffles

Pumpkin Spice Waffles

I feel as though we kind of got cheated on autumn this year. We went from the crappy, raininess of August to the unbearably hot days of September and October and now we’ve just survived the yuckiest month of the year (in my opinion), November.
